A crow sits on a fence in a back yard.

Good Morning, Taylor,

It’s a really beauitful morning on the deck, and I’m hoping the crows will come visit.

The book club I’m a part of had us reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy last month. I tried really hard to read it, but it didn’t make much sense so I gave up on it. I tried to watch the TV show, because maybe some of the nonsense made more sense if I could see it. I got a little farther but I couldn’t make sense anymore of it. Next month is Klara and the Sun. I hope it’s better. If not, I might leave the club and find better books myself.

The crows are having breakfast with me! I’ve started to get closer to them. There’s always food in the bird tray, but now they line up on the fence in the back yard. They wait for me to throw them peanuts. But now, when they’re on the wall, I go out to meet them. I get close enough that they start to get jittery then drop the peanut in front of them and invite them to eat it. I walk back up to the deck and they fly down to get them. I’ve gotten about five feet from them this way. If they stay on the ground though, I throw peanuts at them.

It’s nice having breakfast with them and spending time with them.

This was another week of not a lot of time out. In fact, I gave my whole day to Ragdoll Saturday because it was a special day for her. She was really grateful. I heard her say that this was the first time since I came out that she’s had a whole non-work day to herself. I hope I’m not too much trouble for her.

She did let me grocery shop on Friday, though. I really like grocery shopping because I get to be part of the crowd. Even if it’s not close to home. I got to talking to a really nice couple in the checkout line. They were interested in the crows and how I keep squirrels away with cayenne pepper.

My life is those crows right now. We even talk to each other. I was typing this right now, and Mr Crow cawwed at me. “Hey! Peanut! Now!”

Ragdoll is starting to pick up on them, too. She’s not as obsessed with the crows as I am, but she’s adopted the clicks and even checks the feeder or turns on the webcam when I’m not around. It’s funny how love spreads in unexpected ways. Even if she’s not quite as into them, she’s becoming part of this little community we’ve built.

Next week she has a vacation coming and will spend it in another town. It’s like my vacation where I was out for the fireworks, except this time she’s out. I guess there will be a lot of this tit-for-tat in our lives now. And I need to be as patient with her, as she is of me.

I should go. I think the crows are just going to eat peanuts forever, and it’s almost time for Ragdoll’s work.

I hope you’re good. And not sick of my crow talk. 🙂
